Subject: 3rd Av. Yesterday

Yesterday was pretty wild in the channel. I could not remember having
seen it that big ever. And all guys I talked to agreed. As I was
heading towards it I could see these giants sets from far away and I
could not believe my eyes. They were tall, close, and steep. You could
feel the wind drop between two waves. I am not an expert in measuring
waves, but some of these sets certainly felt like they were mast-high.

     I was on a 4.7 with a 7'10" board (180lbs). 4.2 would have worked
well. Tough to take these giants head-on when overpowered. Jibing was
tough too as the waves were so close from each other.

The wind was probably in the 25-30 range with higher gusts. A strong
and low ebb tide might have been the cause for these waves. I hope
they'll bee back and I'll be waiting with a 4.2...
