'Jim Paugh says:'

I thought you were going to say the lesson was "Never play baseball.
Always windsurf instead." :) Well, that's one good lesson, anyway.
Definitely you are right that it's important to know when you have hit your
own limits of endurance/muscle pain/whatever. I have always noticed that
toward the end of a long session I get very fatigued in my muscles and
start to make really sloppy mistakes, which sometimes result in nasty
crashes.
I don't know if its a valid observation in general, but I have noticed that
hanging on strongly to the boom or mast always seems to lessen the impact.
In your case, maybe hanging onto the sail would have moved you more over
the board as it twisted out? Definitely the worst crashes I have ever had
were the ones where I didn't have a hold on anything and the board or sail
had control over me instead of vice versa.
Hope you heal quickly!
