There are many partially or fully submerged rocks extending out away
from pillar point (see any nautical chart). You can see where they are
by watching how the waves break over them. I would be extremely unpleasant
to be on or near one when a big wave broke. (many boats have been lost in
that area by being smashed onto these rocks, or tumbled by the suddenly
breaking wave.
