The San Francisco Boardsailing Association (SFBA) exists to promote
Boardsailing and Kiteboarding safety, enhance and create launch
access and to promote our sports such that the more of us there are
out sailing/kiting, the more traction we have as an Association when
related issues come up in our communities. And we all know that the
windsurfing community needs more young sailors to keep us on our
toes
With this in mind, SFBA would like everyone to be aware of a special
volunteer opportunity to give back to our sports. There are over
150 kids signed up to compete in the Techno 293 Youth Worlds
happening NEXT WEEK (July 19-24) off Crissy Field. The StFYC is
supplying the venue and infrastructure, and Mother Nature is
providing the wind, but we still need a few volunteers to help make
this a successful event and bring international windsurfing regattas
back to the USA.
We all know that windsurfing on San Francisco Bay is a unique
experience - and now we have a chance to share this experience with
the next generation of board-heads. To make it a great experience
we need help over the course of the regatta to provide the
following:
-whaler drivers every day (boats provided!) -whaler crew every day
(first hand view of the action!) -race committee members every day
(help with flags/scoring) -beach marshals every day (help coordinate
the kids to/from the water and not impede traffic or other sailors)
The National Park Service, while fully supportive of
windsurfing/kiting, has instituted new/stricter rules for running
events at Crissy Field. One of the new rules is to provide Beach
Marshals whose job it will be to make sure both the
sailors/competitors and the non-sailing locals can enjoy the venue
together. As you can imagine, with over 150 competitors we need a
few people on the beach to manage the traffic flow from the rigging
area to the water and back.
Compensation will be a lunch and a thank you, but in reality the fun
you have and the memories you will help provide the kids will be
priceless!
